Eden Street Flowers

We are located in Maine, in the coastal town of Hulls Cove, nestled between the Atlantic Ocean and Acadia National Park. We grow cut flowers on about a 1/4 acre. Our mission is to build a business that is an indispensable part of the community through reciprocal relationship-building and ecological farming practices. We want our neighbors to be excited about fresh flowers that return year after year while knowing they can depend on us to provide an alternative with local flowers.

Our flowers are field-grown, tunnel-grown, and in the winter, we grow thousands of tulips inside in crates under lights and in a minimally heated greenhouse. The covered spaces (heated and unheated) allow for earlier blooms in the springtime, and a continuation of blooms past the first frost. Our flowers are available for purchase through seasonal flower subscriptions and at retail stores, with pick-up locations throughout the area from January through November.

MORE ABOUT US:

Jodi Sargent: Owner, Head Grower: At a young age, I had a keen interest in the intersection of people and plants, and the places that shaped them. I watched my Dad as he shaped the gardens around our home and I studied herbal medicine and plant-based diets as a teenager. Armed with just a BA in Anthropology and French, and this interest, I served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Public Health in Burkina Faso, West Africa, and there I started to understand the impact local agriculture plays on access to fresh food, livable wages, and healthcare. I worked alongside farmers and healthcare providers to increase access to fresh produce and healthcare resources, and for fun, I sowed my first flower seeds (Hail the Sunflower!). Fast forward almost three decades and I am still deeply interested in the intersection of people, plants, and place, this time with floriculture.

After relocating to Maine, and completing a master's degree in Human Ecology from the College of the Atlantic, I built Eden Street Flowers in 2013. It started with estate gardens around Mount Desert Island, and in 2019, added cut flowers, selling to retail and wholesale customers. A highlight of the business is the seasonal weekly CSA subscriptions (Community Supported Agriculture). Jodi is a member of the Maine Flower Collective and the Association of Specialty Cut Flower Growers, working to bring American-grown specialty cut flowers to market and fill Maine communities with a local flower alternative.

Thomas Sargent, Co-Founder, Head of Buildings and Grounds: Thomas leads the construction of greenhouses and tunnels, cold storage, and indoor growing spaces. He excels at learning the latest methods and technologies to build efficient multi-use spaces that provide Eden Street Flowers with affordable solutions for our current needs and future growth. He is also the founder of Sargent Custom Building, a construction firm based in Hulls Cove, Maine.

Our Team: Eden Street Flowers is supported by a hard-working crew employed from April - November, our two busy kids, and a dog and cat that remind me to slow down for play and rest.
